The illustrious MMA journey of Fedor Emelianenko might have reached its conclusion, but the legend's appetite for battle persists.
He's targeting a substantial figure for his forthcoming duel.
During a conversation on the MMA Hour, Emelianenko challenged boxing's heavyweight titan, Mike Tyson, to an enthralling boxing engagement.
"After witnessing Roy Jones Jr. vs. Mike Tyson on television, facing Mike Tyson could be quite a spectacle," expressed Emelianenko. "Tyson's a household name, a living legend. It would be intriguing, especially considering the numerous videos available online showcasing his exceptional fitness. His training with pads, his undiminished power, it's all still there."
In November 2020, Tyson made a spectacular return to the boxing ring in an exhibition bout with Jones Jr., generating an astounding 1.6 million pay-per-view purchases. This overwhelming interest led to speculation that Tyson might reenter the ring for additional exhibition fights, particularly against Evander Holyfield, though no such events have materialized.
Tyson's fight against Jones marked his first appearance in a boxing ring in a decade and a half.
Emelianenko hung up his MMA gloves in February, following a first-round TKO defeat to Ryan Bader at Bellator 290. Despite being 46, he's 11 years younger than Tyson and has maintained a more active fighting presence. While he lacks professional boxing credentials, Emelianenko's recent activity is noteworthy.
Whether Tyson possesses any zeal for stepping back into the ring after securing a lucrative paycheck from his clash with Jones remains a mystery. However, a cross-disciplinary match pitting two titans like Tyson and Emelianenko against each other would undeniably captivate a broad audience.
